According to customs data, as of June, China's 2023 tea exports were 175,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 3.02%, the cumulative export value was 847 million US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 14.14%, the average export price from January to June was 4.84 US dollars/kg, down 11.47% from the same period last year. Although the export market is not booming, there are still growing categories and markets.

In terms of types, from January to June 2023, the exports of green tea (146,300 tons), black tea (13,400 tons), Pu-erh tea (872 tons) and black tea (138 tons) showed a downward trend, with the largest decline of 19.95% for black tea; Oolong tea (11,000 tons) exports increased From the perspective of export market, the top 10 tea export markets in China from January to June 2023 are Morocco, Ghana, Uzbekistan, Algeria, Senegal, Mauritania, Benin, Russia, Mali and Japan. The main items of notification are dinotefuran, cyhalothrin, anthraquinone and sterilization Dan, which deserve the attention of enterprises exporting to Europe.

Japan

In 2023, China's tea and its products exported to Japan were unqualified because of excessive methylnaphthyl, all from Taiwan.

Korea

From 2023 to now, the main pesticide residues detected in tea exported to Korea in China are dinotefuran, methiamine, indocarb, etc., mainly involving oolong tea and black tea.

China

In the food safety sampling inspection organized by the national and provincial and municipal market supervision and management departments in 2023, the main reason for tea being notified is pesticide residues, mainly in the form of thiophosphorus, glyphosate, imidacloprid, etc. Tea companies need to focus on the use and detection of these pesticides.

In addition, China has increased the inspection of excessive packaging of tea products, and so far a number of enterprises have been punished for violations, especially the packaging gap ratio, which has become the hardest hit area of unqualified. In view of the trend of increasing sampling inspection in the future, enterprises need to pay more attention to policies and regulations and do a good job of risk prevention and control in advance.

For the sake of consumers' health, different countries have requirements for agricultural residue limits for tea, and update them according to the actual situation:

European Union

According to Regulation EC 396/2005, the member states of the European Union must implement a uniform maximum residue limit standard for pesticides, for pesticide residues without specific limit standards and are not exempt substances, the implementation of a uniform standard of 0.01mg/kg. As of August 2023, the regulation involves a total of 508 tea residue limit standards;

Japan

Since 2006, the "positive list system" has been implemented, and the current limit of agricultural residues on tea has reached 230+ items, and the standard of agricultural residues outside the list is 0.01mg/kg;

Korea

The Ministry of Food and Drug of Korea (MFDS) has 56 agricultural residue limits for tea;

America

The agricultural residue limit of tea requires 51 items, and only 14 pesticides used in tea processing are allowed, and the rest cannot be detected;

China
